Day of the Carpenter

Without you guys no Klapkot folding out.

Meet Tommy

On Carpenter's Day, we like to put our craftsmen in the spotlight. Because without their craftsmanship, our collapsible, mobile (holiday) homes would simply not exist. That is why we would like to introduce you to Tommy (28), who has now been working as a carpenter at Klapkot for over a year.

Working in construction was not Tommy's first plan. In fact, it all started with an education in sports at CIOS. During the corona period, he rolled into construction. And that's where he ended up staying. A choice he does not regret. Outside working hours, he still likes to be active and is regularly on the golf course.

Building from bottom to top

As a carpenter at Klapkot, Tommy does much more than just carpentry. In fact, his work goes beyond woodworking. “What my job entails? What doesn't?” he says, laughing.

“It actually goes from downstairs to upstairs: from woodwork to things around plumbing and electrics. It's a very broad job. It's precisely that variety that makes the work interesting.”

Working in a growing company

What motivates Tommy most about working at Klapkot is the atmosphere and the development of the company. “It is a young company, so we are working on new innovations every series. As an employee, you can really think along and contribute ideas. That ensures that my work keeps innovating.”

But equally important to Tommy is the atmosphere on the shop floor. “The working atmosphere is just really good. You enjoy going to work here every day. And I've also experienced other than that.”

A fold-out house?

When Tommy tells people where he works, he often has to first explain what exactly Klapkot is. As soon as people hear that it is a fold-out house, he almost always gets the question, “what exactly do you mean?” According to him, it's actually very simple to explain: “It's an innovative way of building a Tiny House or holiday home that is movable but still feels spacious.”

Craftsmanship often underestimated

The work of a carpenter is still sometimes underestimated, according to Tommy. “People often think that being a carpenter is simple, but there really is a lot involved.” For instance, he mentions that you have to take many things into account, because small mistakes can have big consequences. “I do a lot of sight work, here I have to work in great detail, these are details that customers always  see, so it is not clumsy building, but neat and controlled. This is precisely why craftsmanship and accuracy are so important when building a Klapkot.

On this Carpenter's Day, we not only want to put Tommy in the spotlight, but of course thank all the other craftsmen at Klapkot! With their dedication, knowledge and passion for the trade, they help build our collapsible (holiday) homes every day. Thanks to their craftsmanship and hard work, ideas are transformed into real, habitable Klapkots that people can enjoy. A big thank you to all the carpenters who make this possible!

Push your limits and slap it on!
